Samson 55% Working Interest
An existing Samson well, Poitevent Federal #1 has produced oil at rates of 40 BOPD from within the Baxter Shale. Whilst this unit was not recognized as a target in this well, the unit has returned significant oil and gas shows. Following the flow the unit has been examined regionally and shown to have produced significant shows of oil and gas. Both the Greens Canyon #1 and #2 wells, which are nearby, had formation sample shows in the Baxter Shale interval, with oil being reported on the mudpits while drilling. The reservoir is considered to be a fracture system and to evaluate the productive capacity of the 3,500 foot section of Baxter Shale a deviated, under balanced well bore was drilled during the previous quarter. This well bore was planned to intersect the 6 separate fracture zones that have been mapped consistently across all the wells in this area.
of the leading industry participants Questar Corporation (market capitalization of US$ 7 billion) announced in a presentation made to the equity markets that it was pursuing the Baxter Shale within the Green River Basin. They compared the unit in favorable terms to the major shale producing horizons in the USA. Publicly available data from one of the two wells that have been drilled by Questar show an initial flow rate of around 4.5 MMCFD. It is understood that this rate is a combined rate from the Baxter Shale and deeper prospective levels. This well is located in the south eastern part of the Green River Basin.
Following the drilling of the Greens Canyon 27-3 sidetrack it is now understood that hole stability was a problem that could only be combated with maintaining an over balanced drilling fluid which was not the ideal situation when evaluating the productivity of a fracture system.
ollowing a review of the data obtained from this well it is now planed that the most effective and timely way to test the productivity of the Baxter is to fracture stimulate the Green Canyon 29-2 well. Detailed planning to achieve this operation in the next two months is underway.
